MATERIALS The source of beauty behind Arlene’s art is unquestionably the wild beach rye grass of Kodiak Island. The grass grows abundantly along the beaches, thriving in Kodiak’s damp and windy climate.
Arlene harvests in late June or early July, depending on grass quality and summer weatherconditions. Following severalmonths of intensive work curing and preparing the grass she has enough stored for the year’s weaving.
